The results of this initiative have been very positive. The number of confiscations has fallen markedly, while applications for design registration are increasing, an indication that the campaign is having an effect in both intended directions: not only is it a clear warning for all product counterfeiters, but it is also an effective provider of information for exhibitors.
The reaction abroad has also been positive, including in China and in the USA. The US Department of Commerce has started a “Stop Trade in Fakes” campaign for its exhibitors which is modelled on “Messe Frankfurt against copying”. Messe Frankfurt is also expanding its campaign to include events held abroad. It has already begun the international rollout of this initiative with a stand offering advisory services at Automechanika Argentina and Automechanika Shanghai.
